songs you should hear: hangar + seer
Plague Town was the first 8485 project I heard (I mean she's only released 2 eps since, so, its pretty easy for this to be the first thing to hear), and got her to be my favourite artist ever. Plague Town is very cohesive, especially theme wise. This is an EP for someone who is transitioning between 2 very different times in their life, as they figure out what things are gone for good and what things they can hold onto. Its very nostalgic, without actually using stereotypical nostalgiabait traits like an older music style.
The production and mixing on this EP are really good, everything is exactly where it needs to be. Blackwinterwells really did her magic here, as usual (I'm pretty sure she didn't produce one of the songs, but most of it was her). I love the sparkly-sounding layering in pure and seer. My ex-girlfriend always said I had an affinity for indie pop that sounds like it'd be the intro to a 2010's teen film - Hangar and Southview fit this perfectly. Purgatory is kind of the stand-out track, both being a collab and also having a less bright mood, and a lot of people don't like it. It had to grow on me personally, I only started to really like it after I had heard the rest of the EP a dozen times. Eighty's chorus on it had charmed me from the beginning though.
Eighty is also such a strong lyricist. I've always really liked how she writes because it's very similar to my own mindsets and emotions; It feels like hearing a reflection of myself when listening to her music. Seer is definitely my favourite lyrically, next up to pure, then hangar. "I want you everyday, somehow I doubt that'll change, I just wish that were something I could substantiate" was something that hits me soo hard when I have a fp. Eighty is really good at expressing herself with relatively common vocabulary without feeling overly cliche or basic, she's someone I take a lot of inspiration from as a song writer.
