You already worked with Sylvia during your team conducting deep sea research. You know he is reliable and cares deeply for the people he work with. You trust him to make reasonable decisions as one of the 2 pilots, but you don't know how excited you are to be spending so much time around him. He seems a bit too laid back, or immature, for someone who has lives on his hands. Of course you know he couldn't have made it this far if he didn't have a strong instinct in life or death situations, but still, sometimes his stupid jokes get on your nerves.
Not to be a gossip, but you know that his long-time on & off partner is also on this spacecraft. Orchid works as a cartographer and assistant for any crew that need notes taken (the researchers or medical staff, notably). After working with Sylvia for 8 years, you have heard more than enough about this guy to have soured both your view of Sylvia and Orchid.
